An Australian tourist has detailed the expensive mistake he made at a restaurant that ended up costing him more than his holiday. 7NEWS
The traveller, from Western Australia, was celebrating his birthday with friends inThe group ordered the Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet, a 2004 Grand Cru.“We usually don’t drink wine when in Bali due to the cost and average wine on offer but this time I decided I would splash out on a bottle of wine given the occasion,” he said in a Facebook group.An Australian tourist has detailed the expensive mistake he made at a restaurant that ended up costing him more than his holiday .
“I did think at the time it was strange but I just assumed it’s a nice restaurant and didn’t think about it again.It wasn’t until the following day the man decided to check his bank account.To his shock, he was charged more than $A2000 - with the bottle of wine actually costing $A1700 alone.‘My heart dropped’
“My heart dropped into my stomach and I had a mini panic attack. After rummaging through my stuff I found the receipt and the wine was close to $1700.The traveller realised he had misread the currency - as the wine was priced in hundreds of thousands of Indonesian Rupiah, rather than tens of thousands.According to tourists, “+” means “plus tax” and “++” means “plus tax AND plus service charge”.“After a few hours of processing what happened we had a good laugh about it,” he said.
“Needless to say I’m not allowed to order anything off a menu without getting the okay from the other half.”
