will celebrate the impending 21st birthday of their game-changing Sub Pop debut album,, by playing it in full on a tour that will begin July 12 in San Francisco. These will be the James Mercer-led band’s first live shows in nearly five years and come on the heels of last year’sof the album, which in its original form essentially kick-started the glory days of early 2000s indie rock.
, which comes of age on June 19. “It opened me up to the whole world and gave me validation. It’s also something that stands as a bit of a pinnacle for our band. You release that first record and it’s so well embraced, but you’re always trying to get that magic back, I think.”from front to back, The Shins will also offer up “a nightly rotation of additional fan favorites and deep cuts” at the upcoming shows, which run through Sept. 16 in Portland, Ore and will feature support from Joseph.
