The South Korean film industry posted the highest revenue in three years in 2022 since the pandemic.
According to the Korean Film Council , which tracks box office receipts, there were 1,771 films released in South Korea in 2012, lower compared to 1,856 releases in 2021.
The Korean film industry grossed 1.16 trillion won in 2022, an increase of 98 percent compared to 584.54 million won in 2021. The No. 1 top grossing film in South Korea in 2022 is the Korean film “The Roundup,” starring Ma Dong-seok, Son Suk-ku and Choi Gwi-hwa. “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which was only released in Korea on Dec. 14, grabbed third place with 7.31 million in attendance and gross of $71.49 million.
