The Everest organisers have been lobbying King Charles III to visit Royal Randwick for a new race named in his honour, coinciding with a potential royal visit to the Pacific in 2024.

Racing NSW has paid tribute to the monarch with the introduction of the $5 million King Charles III Stakes on Everest day next Saturday, the latest addition to Sydney’s mega money spring carnival. “We’ve given him an open invitation and we would welcome him at the race any time he’s able to come,” V’landys said. “We’re aware his itinerary is extremely full and we would love him at Royal Randwick if he’s in this part of world.

Queen Elizabeth raced several horses in Australia during her latter years and the King had his first winner in this country when Chalk Stream won the Australia Day Cup in January.A delegation of Australian racing officials, including Australian Turf Club chairman Peter McGauran and Chalk Stream’s trainer Chris Waller, visited the royal box during the Ascot carnival to present the Australia Day Cup trophy to His Majesty.
