Conservative Liberal MPs voted against referendum legislation on Wednesday, to join a committee responsible for outlining the argument against Constitutional changes.
, after legislation for the referendum passed its first parliamentary test.
Known as “authorised dissenters”, the group includes former speaker Andrew Wallace, and MPs Scott Buchholz, Rick Wilson, Henry Pike, Luke Howarth and Tony Pasin. The group voted no, alongside all Nationals members, who are opposed to the Voice.the Liberal Party supported the bill in order for the referendum to go ahead, but criticised Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s approach to the vote.“My main concerns are that the proposal lacks detail.
“This sort of all or nothing approach that’s been taken by Labor is really going to set back reconciliation.”
