The Prime Minister said the defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election was a warning to Pakatan that many of the things the ruling coalition had been doing were not accepted by the people on the ground.

"We are also aware that there were other accusations that Pakatan is being controlled by DAP – that is the opinion of the Malays, while the Chinese feel that DAP is being horsed around by Dr Mahathir of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ."However, the situation now is that the people are not satisfied as we are being paired to both sides," said Dr Mahathir to the media.

Dr Mahathir also said that although there were people who opined that there were cracks in the coalition, the leadership of Pakatan remained intact.
