Jim Chalmers will cite 2020 topping off the worst decade for productivity in 60 years and zero growth in the years since as the key economic issue to be tackled.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers says reversing course on years of underwhelming productivity growth will be vital to boosting wages and living standards and require a major transformation agenda from government.which will map Australia’s economic trajectory 40 years into the future and detail the challenges on the horizon.
“Our approach is all about investing in our people, skills, innovation, technology and cheaper and cleaner energy – not about making people work harder for less. The IGR also said emerging innovations, such as cloud computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, had the potential to transform the future of work by automating more routine tasks and improving worker capability.
So, too, was changing Australia’s industry mix, with a particular focus on the opportunities and challenges of the global push to decarbonise.
