Tramell Wright, 16, of Helix Mentorship STEAM Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, flies a mini drone during Project LIFT mentoring event for 100 teenagers at the 38th Annual AMAC Business Diversity Conference at the Boeing Center at Tech Port, Monday, June 12, 2023. The teens took part in activities that include drone racing and training in flight simulators. With a firm grip on two controls, Jaesun Davis was ready for take-off.
“I’d rather know who is coming in and have some kind of influence,” Irwin said, “than not have any involvement with the next generation who are going to be in all aspects of aviation.”Jaesun was among more than 100 youth registered for Project LIFT , a showcase of career opportunities in the aviation and aerospace industry. The Airport Minority Advisory Council, a national organization, sponsored the free, interactive learning and mentoring event.

Chatter from the excited teens echoed across the space above the hum of the single-seat trainers.
