Iron Man 3's ending left one big mystery that the MCU still hasn't solved, even though there have been subtle references to it here and there.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally moved on from Iron Man and his sacrifice at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but this universe still has one big mystery from Iron Man 3 to solve. Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man is the hero that kicked off the MCU as it’s known, and as such, he was one of the leaders of this connected universe throughout the Infinity Saga, even leading the original Avengers team alongside Captain America.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Iron Man 3 was Tony’s first post-Avengers adventure, and as such, it saw him dealing with anxiety and PTSD as a result of his near-death experience during the Battle of New York. As if that wasn’t enough, Iron Man also had to deal with Aldrich Killian , a scientist who created the Extremis virus, through which he recruited a one-of-a-kind type of very dangerous soldiers.
Extremis was the reason why every enemy Iron Man came across in Iron Man 3 was so difficult to defeat and overpower, so this virus had a main role in the movie, yet it didn’t get the closure it needed and deserved. Hansen was killed by Killian and the latter was killed at the end of Iron Man 3, but the Extremis virus didn’t die with them, and as not all the Extremis soldiers were killed or cured, Iron Man 3 left a major loose end that the MCU has chosen to ignore since the movie was released.
What Happened To Extremis After Iron Man 3? As mentioned above, not all Extremis soldiers were killed at the end of Iron Man 3, and this was confirmed in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. When Shang-Chi arrives at the Golden Daggers Club in Macau, different fighters are shown, among them one who is an Extremis user.
