The Last of Us episode 4 trailer promises high-stakes on Joel and Ellie's next stop on their road trip. Pedro Pascal stars as Joel, a black market smuggler tasked with transporting Ellie to a distant contingent of the idealistic militant faction known as the Fireflies. With the 14-year-old orphan immune to the fungal infection that wreaked havoc across the planet, turning humans into ravenous grotesque creatures, the Fireflies believe that Ellie may hold the key to saving the world.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Following episode 3's conclusion, HBO Max released the trailer for The Last of Us episode 4 which teases a riveting next chapter on Joel and Ellie's road trip. The trailer depicts Joel and Ellie on the road shortly after leaving Bill and Frank's fortified sanctuary. However, they quickly find themselves lost and ambushed by an unknown violent group, promising audiences an action-packed chapter in Joel and Ellie's arduous journey.
Ending up in a secluded alley, a group of violent survivors attempts to bait them with an injured man. However, Joel sees through the ruse and attempts to escape the ambush but is overwhelmed. The pair are forced to flee on foot in deadly unknown enemy territory. Joel takes charge to protect Ellie, coming face-to-face with those hunting them. Although apprehensive about Joel earlier in the season, Ellie seemingly begins to put her complete trust in her designated protector.
The Last of Us episode 4 will also introduce Melanie Lynskey as a new character written specifically for HBO's television adaptation. She is set to play Kathleen, the leader of the survivor group that violently controls Kansas City. The trailer shows her holding a gun to someone's head as she demands the whereabouts of another. The identity of the person she is searching for remains to be seen.
