Oscar nominated and now streaming on Netflix, 'The Elephant Whisperers' depicts the loving relationship of a tribe in India and the pachyderms who share the forest with them.

It was a chance meeting with that same baby elephant in October 2017 that changed filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves's life and spurred her to make the film. The chance elephant encounter came when Gonsalves was making that career transition."I was in the process of moving back to my hometown of Ooty," she says. And she stopped at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, close to the Theppakadu Elephant camp. It was established more than a hundred years ago, and she'd been visiting it since she was a child."While driving home, I met Raghu as a three-month-old calf," she recalls.
