A tragic new detail has emerged about how a father was alerted about the fatal car crash that claimed the lives of his entire family this week, as loved ones set up a fundraising page to pay for funeral costs.
His wife Katrina Sila, 34, and their two-year-old son Kai, were killed when the family's Mazda SUV collided with a cement truck in the north-bound lanes of the Hume Highway, at Menangle Park in the city's south-west, on Monday morning.
There is a feature on newer iPhones and Apple Watches that will call first responders and send an alert to emergency contacts to inform them of a potential crash. "We would like to express our gratitude for the support everyone has show us... strangers we don't even know, and first responders, everyone that was on the scene and everyone who tried to help," they said in a statement.
"This beautiful family resides in the South West of Sydney and has loved everything about this area, dreamed of raising their children here and called this community their forever home," family representative Aldrick Kalopita said on Facebook.
