How and when a card applies depends on when it’s drawn and the interpretation of the Dungeon Master. The dragon card could mean a literal dragon appears out of nowhere to attack the adventurers or perhaps a dragon egg appears to turn those adventurers into caretakers until the egg hatches. It could also be interpreted in a broader sense, such as a Dragon Emperor rising to power because of the players’ actions.
The book also comes with story hooks based on each card. If the Dungeon Master is stumped on how drawing a certain card might affect play, they can turn to that page and have multiple ideas waiting for them. Draw the Ring card, for example and the page in this book contains a few different magic rings that might appear on a players’ finger.looks to bring some of that energy to Fifth Edition but with more guidance on how to contstruct a story from each draw.
