“There is currently no existing rugby league or rugby union participation base in the local area,” the NRL said.“Whilst this provides an opportunity for the NRL and Melbourne Storm to capture a new market, the legacy impact of the Commonwealth Games could be optimised by hosting Rugby 7s at other regional centres as well, including Ballarat and Geelong.”
The facility recently had a $1.7 million upgrade that improved its lighting and pitches and installed a new synthetic pitch. But Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie said those appearing before the inquiry should not be “muzzled”.
