“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the legal filing reads, per ESPN
Oher did not discover the new information until February of this year, according to the petition.
The family has previously said it received a flat fee from the movie and shared profits equally among the five of them – including Oher. Oher was a star high school player — one of 12 children to a mother who abused drugs — when he signed the paperwork, saying in the filing he was told at the time the conservatorship designation was no different from adoption. One difference though, according to the filing: as a legally adopted member of the Tuohy family, he would have been able to handle his own financial affairs. With the conservatorship, it was the Tuohys who had control.
