We asked several of South Africa’s most prominent domain registrars what the most common domain name scams are in South Africa.
South Africans must be vigilant against domain name scams as they are a popular form of cybercrime in the country.
Once the scammer has logged these login credentials, they will use these details to steal money from the victim’s real banking account. The ZARC also highlighted that Amazon’s entry in to the South African market came with a significant number of scammers registering look-alike domains to amazon.co.za.
The victim then enters their bank details into the fraudulent website, and the malicious parties now have access to their banking details.
