Based on the novels by Ian Fleming, the first 007 film was released in 1962, introducing Sean Connery as the iconic British superspy.
Now, a new survey conducted by William Hill Vegas sees 3,500 British citizens voting on which James Bond movie is the best, and Craig's 2012 film Skyfall from director Sam Mendes has emerged on top. The film earned 17.5% of the vote, handily beating 1964's Goldfinger in second place with 8.7%. Somewhat surprisingly, 2021's No Time To Die came third with 7% of the vote.
Why Skyfall Is A Top 007 Movie Director Martin Campbell's Casino Royale marked a new era for Bond, with Craig's grittier take on the character serving as a breath of fresh air after several more outlandish installments. 2008's Quantum of Solace, however, which suffered as a result of the writers' strike that had been going on at the time, was a noticeable step backwards.
In addition to following a slightly older and more world-weary Bond, which suited Craig's take on the character, Skyfall's villain is also one of the franchise's best. Javier Bardem's Silva was at once very creepy and featured the overused trope of being disfigured, but his sensual dynamic with Bond as shown off in his opening monologue scene sets him apart from the antagonists of the past.
