Showrunners Chris Miller, Phil Lord, and Anthony King discuss who did it, why they did it, and the one character who is forever safe on their shows.

on the eve of the finale’s airing to talk about whodunnit, how they made Tiffany Haddish’s horniest dreams come true, and their feelings about the show’s ardent Reddit audience.: Congratulations on another delightful reveal. What kind of a reaction are you anticipating from viewers? My hope is that the Redditors knew what was going to happen, but the casual viewers will be very surprised.

. You know, there has to be something where if you pay a lot of attention and you really analyze every frame of it, you can figure out who did it—but that people who are not going deep, are just watching the show, you want them to be totally surprised. That's my real hope. If the Redditors hadn't figured it out, I'd actually be more disappointed.

That’s true. Do you have any favorite moments of the season, and why is it Sebastian saying “fart in a jar”?The reason for that, a silly reason for us, is that we needed a show that he was saying it in an American accent. If he was saying “oh shit” or “dammit” or “fuck,” it wasn't clear that he's an American. But once you get those Rs in there, that's very American. “Fart in a jar” is sort of athing.

Do you all have anything that you are proud of pulling off, or that people didn't get? I’ve gotta say, I was worried about Zoë there for a minute. It would be a really dark turn if the finale was that Aniq's girlfriend killed someone.I will say there's a bunch of little hidden puzzles that the Redditors didn't solve, but the one that I'm happiest that they didn't solve is that Edgar Minnows' name was created as an anagram of "wrong man dies.

I thought it was fun that the murder was not really what you thought it was, even though everyone had a motivation. How quickly did the central mystery come to you?We thought about poison early on, because it feels like anybody could have an opportunity to make the poison. And then we talked for a little while about how convoluted of a journey should the poison take to get to the person who ingests the poison, and there was some discussion of it being like, a lot more complex.
