The 2017 film Thank You For Your Service is inspired by a true story and the characters, including Miles Teller’s, are based on real-life people.
Thank You For Your Service recounts the stories of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, the 15 months they were deployed in Iraq, and the post-traumatic stress disorder they experienced after returning home to the United States in 2007. The 2017 war drama film is based on true events, as documented in the 2013 nonfiction novel of the same name by David Finkel.
In real life, James Doster was a soldier with the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, killed on September 29, 2007. He was in Baghdad, Iraq, when the enemy attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. During an interview with LRM Online, Schumann confirmed that everything in Thank Your For Your Service "except for that dog thing" is based on true events.
Adam Schumann Experienced PTSD After Returning Home The central theme of Thank You For Your Service is the after-effects of war and how soldiers cope with their trauma. As the main protagonist, Schumann's PTSD is at the forefront of the movie. He is constantly tormented by what happened in Iraq during his employment, especially James Doster's death and Michael Emory's head injury.
Tausolo Aieti's PTSD Explained Tausolo "Solo" Aieti is another soldier in Thank You For Your Service who experiences PTSD following the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment's deployment. In Iraq, Solo helps the men in Doster's Humvee after it runs over an explosive. However, he accidentally leaves Doster behind, and he dies. So, Solo feels guilt from the incident and carries that with him when returning home.
