The former world number one overcame 13th-seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini in a five-set classic on Tuesday.
Murray would have been exhausted by beating a quality opponent in such trying circumstances, but Kokkinakis will have to back up after a mentally sapping period."I tried to stay focus and sharp and I'm pretty confident. While Kokkinakis stayed alive in the tournament, wildcard Olivia Gadecki was beaten in straight sets by Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.
