BANGKOK (ANN): Thailand is to set up a task force on sex offenders, said Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsuthin.
The task force will comprise personnel from the Department of Probation , Department of Corrections and Department of Special Investigation.
The Royal Thai Police will also be asked to collect data and verify the whereabouts of all sex offenders, such as whether the offender is wanted, imprisoned, or close to being released, he said, adding “by doing so, people can be warned of the threats". DOP, DOC, and DSI will jointly monitor the offender's case and activities before a law is drawn up and enforced.Regarding the problem of overcrowding in state prisons, the minister said bunk beds would be introduced instead of building new facilities.
“Currently, there were 134 prisons nationwide, sufficient for the number of prisoners being held at a time ” he said.Drug users, he said, should instead be detained in hospitals but drug dealers and producers should be punished severely." - The Nation/Asia News Network We're sorry, this article is unavailable at the moment.
