Thai Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai announced proactive measures to combat call-centre gangs relocating from Myanmar to Cambodia. These measures include cooperation with neighbouring countries, a study to enhance counter-cybercrime efforts, and monitoring of call-centre activities in Poipet town. The government also implemented a six-month power and internet shutdown in five Myanmar border towns, showing initial success in reducing criminal activities.
BANGKOK: The government has implemented proactive measures to deal with call-centre gangs that plan to operate from Cambodia , Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said on Friday .
He assured that the government would take action against any public or private officials found involved with call-centre gangs. A study on the operation would be conducted to further enhance measures against cyber-criminals, he said. Phumtham denied rumours that Myanmar had issued an advisory asking its people to refrain from visiting Chiang Rai province via the First Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, saying the Thai government had informed this issue to Myanmar in advance.
