WASHINGTON — Texas Republicans in Washington on Thursday threatened federal funding to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security over the Biden administration’s handling of the border.
“Governor Abbott, stay the course. Stand your ground and continue to defend the great state of Texas,” Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, said. “You’re doing what’s right, you’re doing what’s necessary, and you are exercising your constitutional power and authority as a sovereign state leader.” The Justice Department says in new court documents that “irreparable harm to the United States -- including to its critically important relations with Mexico -- has already occurred.”
According to new court filings in the Biden administration’s attempts to get a judge to order the removal of the floating barricade, one Border Patrol official said obstructions in the water would affect freedom of movement and delay response times.
