Texas Rangers relief pitcher Will Smith responds to questions from the media during MLB World Series Media Day at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Oct. 26.If they win, they’ll only be two rings behind relief pitcher Will Smith, who has a shot at history this series.Smith can become the first player in MLB history to win three consecutive World Series championships with three different teams.
“Growing up, playing catch with my dad, 3-2, bottom of the ninth, game seven, you’ve got to throw a strike to win, I’ve done that a million times in my front yard,” Smith said. “To actually do it in real life is pretty cool.”He appeared in 24 games for the Houston Astros in the 2022 regular season, but did not pitch in the playoffs., and he spent most of the regular season as the team’s closer with 22 saves and a 4.40 ERA. He has a 9.00 ERA in two playoff innings.
“I call it the ‘it’ factor, like the comradery side of it,” Smith said of the similarities between all three World Series teams he’s played for. “These last three teams I’ve played on have been tight. They enjoy hanging out with each other, they go to team dinners, they play cards in the clubhouse, they mess with each other all the time.”Shawn McFarland
