Texas quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Maalik Murphy both turned in excellent performances Saturday in the team's spring scrimmage.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers throws a pass during the Orange-White Spring Football Game on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.AUSTIN — Spring football drew to a close for Texas Saturday afternoon at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
Ewers’ final line would have been a tad more impressive if star wideout Xavier Worthy didn’t veer out of bounds in the red zone on a 46-yard catch in the first half. Still, after missing time due to a clavicle injury and struggling with his mechanics and accuracy at points last season, Ewers looks ready to make a quantum leap playing alongside so many offensive weapons with an offensive line that will return all five starters.
Manning, an early enrollee out of New Orleans Isidore Newman, showed off his athleticism with a few scrambles. He mostly took what was given in the passing game, finishing 5 of 13 for 30 yards while alternating drives with Murphy.Even with redshirt sophomore Johnathon Brooks playing sparingly and senior Keilan Robinson sitting out with an injury, Texas rolled out an impressive fleet of halfbacks.
The wideouts were just as impressive. Georgia transfer Adonai Mitchell made his presence felt with six catches for 58 yards. He went airborne for a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab to give the White squad a 21-3 lead just before halftime.
