A search in underway for a Texas National Guard soldier who went missing earlier today.
TEXAS — A Texas Army National Guard Soldier assigned to Operation Lone Star has gone missing along the Rio Grande river Friday in Eagle Pass, Texas.
According to the Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, the incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. near a tributary called the Seco Creek. Officials said it's a powerful part of the river. Schmerber said the soldier jumped into the Rio Grande when he saw a woman who was crossing the river go under. She made it to the other side and is in custody.
Officials are still looking for the soldier, and have brought divers out to assist. They found the soldier’s walkie talkie and vest on the shore where he dove into the river.
