AUSTIN — Morgantown, W. Va., isn’t an ideal place for a get-right game.

WVU Coliseum seats 14,000. It’s rowdy and intimidating, a wonderfully hostile college hoops environment that can rattle even the most veteran of teams.

“They were never , they were never down,” Huggins said Wednesday after WVU beat the Horned Frogs to break a five-game losing streak. “They were, ‘Hey, let’s go get the next one. We can win. We can make a run.’ And I got them together and said, ‘Fellas, we’re going to play three at home and certainly a winnable away game. I mean, let’s go make a run.’ Because 4-5 sounds a lot better than 0-9, I’ll tell you that.

But over Texas’ past four games its field goal percentage has dipped to 42.5 percent, with a 21-for-79 showing from 3-point range as the primary culprit for the offensive regression. The Longhorns have also committed 53 turnovers during that stretch, a sudden sloppiness that has made their ongoing shooting woes even more glaring.

With the guards struggling to penetrate and the paint teeming with defenders, Texas settled for long 3s while the Cyclones sagged off. The result: a 4-for-17 showing from behind the arc and a minus-10 point differential in the second half. In the win over TCU, the Mountaineers offset the Horned Frogs’ 52 percent shooting performance by forcing 19 turnovers — the 10th time they’ve forced at least 15 this season. And while former Longhorn Tre Mitchell isn’t eviscerating many shots , his length and mobility could be a problem for Texas’ guards whenever they adventure into the heart of West Virginia's defense.
