Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, Texas had more book bans than any other state in the nation, according to a new report by PEN America.

"They're making these kids a political pawn and they're trying to start a cultural war that's going to win them votes," said Mary Woodard, the president of the Texas Library Association."And that's really unfortunate because it puts it puts kids and teachers and librarians in the middle." Keller ISD got national attention last month after it pulled dozens of books from its shelves, including the Bible and a graphic adaption of The Diary of Anne Frank.
"The books are in the library to help kids gain empathy for kids that are different from them," she said."They also help kids explore complex issues, different perspectives."
