Texas' Republican Gov. Greg Abbott told Newsmax on Wednesday that the border policies of President Joe Biden are causing him to lose support, even among the nation's Democrats.
"It could be that [Biden's] advisers have him on a [political] suicide mission," Abbott said during "Rob Schmitt Tonight" on Wednesday. "He is tanking in the polls. He's extraordinarily underwater, in his polling data on the border, on the economy. But his border strategy is turning off people, including Democrats in Texas, Democrats in New York, [and] Democrats across the country. It's going to make it very easy for a Republican to win the presidency.
"Candidly, you have to wonder, What does he really know is going on?" Abbott asked. "He's hardly been to the border. His 'border czar' [Vice President Kamala Harris] hasn't been there. He's being told by people like [White House press secretary] Karine Jean-Pierre that the border is closed. He's told by [Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas that the border is closed.
"It's just outrageous," he said. "It is decimating our country, and that's exactly why Texas is trying to step up and stop it." "They didn't come on their own. The way they got there was Joe Biden sent them," Abbott said. "What Mayor Adams' message already has been is the correct one, and that is holding Joe Biden responsible for this.
