Texas AG Ken Paxton settles for $3.3 million with whistleblowers who accused him of taking bribes

Ken Paxton has agreed to apologize and pay $3.3 million in taxpayer money to four former staffers who accused him of corruption in 2020, igniting an ongoing FBI investigation of the three-term Republican. Under terms of a preliminary lawsuit settlement filed Friday, Feb.
“I have chosen this path to save taxpayer dollars and ensure my third term as Attorney General is unburdened by unnecessary distractions," he said."This settlement achieves these goals. I look forward to serving the people of Texas for the next four years free from this unfortunate sideshow.” The agreement states that it is contingent upon all necessary approvals. This could include sign-off from the Texas Legislature.
