Texas A&M’s good fortune finally ran dry Wednesday in a 5-1 loss to Oklahoma.
Texas A&M's Jack Moss, left, Khristian Curtis, middle, and Brett Minnich, right, react to their loss to Oklahoma during an NCAA College World Series baseball game Wednesday, June 22, 2022, in Omaha, Neb. OMAHA, Neb. — Texas A&M’s good fortune finally ran dry Wednesday, about 800 miles north of where many in February figured, based on a new coach and a cobbled-together lineup reliant on a load of transfers.
“Aggies are pretty proud,” A&M first-year coach Jim Schlossnagle said of both fans and players after A&M’s deepest postseason sprint. “The beauty is we’re still really disappointed, too, because we want to win championships. I would anticipate — even though I never take these trips for granted — I would anticipate us being back here at some point.”
The Sooners added to their early lead in the bottom of the third when Moss failed to squeeze a routine catch at first base, letting OU’s Peyton Graham round third and score. Poor fielding has been A&M’s biggest gremlin in the postseason, and Moss and shortstop Kole Kaler’s misthrow in the sixth gave the Aggies an NCAA Tournament-high 18 errors.
The Sooners, who won national titles in 1951 and 1994, will face Mississippi or Arkansas, which played later Wednesday, in the championship series.
