As far as rebuilding teams go, the Houston Texans are in about as good a position as they can be to build toward their future. They’ve got a high draft pick in the first round, 11 picks in this year’s draft total and they don’t feel a pressing need to upgrade their quarterback this offseason.
In the end though, I stuck to the best player available philosophy. Hamilton is a fantastic athlete at safety when it comes to his instincts and the ball skills he pairs with them. He can really do it all, from playing deep, dropping into the nickel or even playing on the line of scrimmage. As deep as this draft class is in edge prospects, Hamilton is really the perfect player for the Texans to build their future defense around.
Breece Hall could represent a huge help not only Houston’s run game but for their offense as a whole. He was a production monster at Iowa State, where he put up 3,941 rushing yards and tallied 50 touchdowns in three years. Hall isn’t a big back but he uses his good vision and patience to create out of the backfield.
All of that said, his lack of experience as a linebacker is apparent in his play. He’s definitely still a raw prospect at the position, but his general athleticism and competitive nature make it clear that he will thrive when given the time to develop.Here’s another best player available pick that lined up nicely to fill a need. Alec Lindstrom was a two-time All-ACC First-Team center during his time at Boston College.
