The Tesla Model Y receives a significant refresh with improvements in aerodynamics, performance, design, and interior features.

Tesla has recently unveiled the updated version of its popular Model Y electric SUV, and it boasts significant enhancements both aesthetically and functionally. While it retains the familiar platform, the new Model Y features a refreshed exterior design, improved aerodynamics, and a handful of new additions. The model showcased at Ion Orchard in Singapore was the RHD AWD LR variant in Ultra Red, complete with optional 20-inch wheels and a black and white interior.

One notable change is the standard Stealth Grey exterior, previously a RM7,500 option. The new Model Y also excels in aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.22Cd, surpassing its predecessor's 0.23Cd. This remarkable feat for a large SUV places it on par with vehicles like the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3.Performance upgrades are evident in both the RWD and Long Range AWD versions. The RWD boasts a WLTP-rated range of up to 466km, an increase of 11km, and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds, a full second quicker. The Long Range AWD variant offers a range of up to 551km, an improvement of 18km, and sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds thanks to the complimentary Acceleration Boost feature included with the Launch series. The exterior design embraces contemporary aesthetics with a light bar reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck. Notably absent is the T logo on the bonnet, lending it a cleaner appearance. The spacious frunk remains a hallmark of the Model Y, and Tesla has added a drain plug for versatile use as an ice box. A new front camera positioned below the number plate holder enhances visibility for Autopilot and Smart Summon. At the rear, the striking cross-car lamp, a horizontal tail lamp with indirect illumination, steals the show. This innovative design feature creates a unique visual effect akin to ceiling-mounted mood lighting. Inside, the Model Y incorporates the latest upgrades from the redesigned Model 3, including anti-gravity seats with ventilation, ambient lighting, an 8-inch display for rear passengers, and a refined dashboard layout. While stalks for indicators remain on the left side of the steering column, the gear selector stalk has been eliminated, prompting drivers to utilize swipe gestures on the display to navigate through P-R-N-D. Backup gear selector buttons, mirroring the Model 3, are conveniently located on the roof.Tesla claims to have enhanced the ride experience through updated suspension, new tires and wheels, and double-glazed windows for all panels, including the glass roof, which features a new coating for superior heat rejection. Charging capabilities remain consistent with both Model Y RWD and LR AWD variants supporting 11kW AC charging. DC charging speeds reach up to 175kW for the RWD model (229km range in 15 minutes) and 250kW for the AWD version (266km range in 15 minutes). The Model Y continues to impress with one of the largest cargo capacities in its segment, exceeding 2,130 liters in total. The refreshed model further expands this capacity with a deeper secondary underfloor storage compartment in the boot. A welcome addition is the new powered second-row backrest, allowing for effortless folding and unfolding of the rear seats from the boot itself.Overall, the updated Tesla Model Y represents a compelling choice, starting from under RM200,000. Its modern aesthetics, enhanced efficiency and range, and practical new features make it an attractive option for families seeking a capable and technologically advanced SUV
