Hyundai announced Thursday it would be adopting the Tesla charging plug in North America next year.

Tesla chalked up another electric-vehicle charging win Thursday. Investors will be happy, but overly so.

“Our collaboration with Tesla marks another milestone in our commitment to delivering exceptional EV experiences to our customers,” said José Muñoz, Hyundai president and global COO, in a news release. He is also president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America. Tesla was, obviously, early to the EV revolution and developed its own charging technology that the company uses in North America. Tesla uses different plugs in Europe and China because local standards-setting bodies went in different directions over time.

Newsletter Sign-up Not all of that was charging-related though. Late May was also when Nvidia reported blowout first-quarter results, setting off an artificial-intelligence-related rally. Nvidia makes the computer chips that enable AI computing. Tesla uses AI computing to train its self-driving technology. Investors have come to view both stocks, to varying degrees, as AI plays.
