Terengganu's bid to reach the semi-finals of the Asean Club Championships ended in disappointment with a 3-4 loss to BG Pathum United. Despite a late rally, Terengganu couldn't overcome the deficit and finished third in Group A.
Terengganu 's hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the Asean Club Championships were dashed after a heartbreaking 3-4 loss to Thai club BG Pathum United in a nail-biting Group A match held at the Leo Stadium in Bangkok on Wednesday, February 5th. This defeat marked the end of Terengganu 's campaign in the tournament. BG Pathum United secured the top spot in the group standings with 11 points, while Indonesian club PSM Makassar claimed the second qualifying position with 10 points.
Only the top two teams from each group were eligible to progress to the semi-finals.Terengganu managed to break the deadlock in the 65th minute when winger Akhyar Rashid showcased his offensive prowess. He skillfully dribbled past Senegalese centreback Christian Gomis near the penalty box and unleashed a stunning right-footed shot that sailed past BG Pathum goalkeeper Pisan Dorkmaikaew. However, their lead proved short-lived as BG Pathum responded swiftly with an equalizer in the 71st minute. Brazilian striker Raniel Vasconcelos capitalized on a precise through pass from Singaporean international striker Ilhan Fandi. The match continued to be a back-and-forth affair with BG Pathum taking the lead again in the 76th minute. Vasconcelos struck once more, this time capitalizing on a fumble by Terengganu goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim. While Rahadiazli had initially saved an attempt from winger Santhiparp Channgom, he couldn't prevent Vasconcelos from converting the rebound. BG Pathum further extended their advantage in the 83rd minute when midfield maestro Chanathip Songkrasin delivered a brilliant through pass, setting up Japanese midfielder Gakuto Notsuda for a clinical finish. Ilhan Fandi added to BG Pathum's tally in the 88th minute, capitalizing on another error by Rahadiazli, who failed to stop a cross from winger Nattawut Suksum. Terengganu managed to pull one back in the 86th minute through Safawi Rasid, who was assisted by Akhyar, before Safawi converted a penalty in the 95th minute to bring the score to 3-4. Despite their late valiant effort, Terengganu couldn't overcome the deficit and their journey in the Asean Club Championships came to an end
