THE Commission on Appointments (CA) on Thursday confirmed the ad interim appointment of Gilberto Teodoro Jr. as secretary of Department of National Defense (DND), a position he held 16 years ago.
Teodoro previously served as DND chief from 2007 to 2009 under the Arroyo administration.Eleven senior Armed Forces of the Philippines officers likewise obtained CA confirmation on their respective nominations and ad interim appointments.The CA confirmed the nomination of Kira Christianne Azucena as non-resident ambassador to Niue, in addition to being Philippine ambassador to New Zealand; Charlie Manangan, as Philippine Ambassador to Iraq; and Catherine Cruz Sy, Foreign Service Officer.
Senate President Pro Tempore Lorna Regina 'Loren' Legarda said Teodoro broadened the nation's security objectives into a 'whole of government' strategy.The senator said Teodoro 'possesses the academic, professional, and ethical background necessary to take the helm of our nation's security.'He ensured that national development efforts 'reach critical areas affected by insurgent or secessionist movements,' she said in sponsoring Teodoro's confirmation.
