Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin attended the Malaysian Traditional Orchestra Outreach (OTM): Sounds of Malaysia (SOM) 2024 program, organized by Istana Budaya (IB). The event featured performances of traditional Malaysian music, aiming to entertain and educate the public, especially younger generations, on the beauty of these musical genres.
The Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, attended the Malaysia n Traditional Orchestra Outreach (OTM): Sounds of Malaysia (SOM) 2024 program organized by Istana Budaya (IB) at Plaza Alam Sentral yesterday. Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin's arrival at 8.45 pm was welcomed by IB director-general Zubaidah Mukhtar, IB deputy director-general (operations) Johan Cruyff@Mohd Johari Md Nordin and RCD Concept Sdn Bhd director Datuk Seri Rozaimi Che Di.
OTM: SOM 2024's performance director, Ramli Lani, stated that the event aims to entertain and educate the community, especially the younger generation, about the beauty of traditional music such as inang, zapin, asli, and joget. He emphasized the importance of song selection to convey ideas and messages while attracting the younger generation's interest in Malaysian traditional music. Ramli explained that the performance consisted of four segments, with OTM's performance alongside IB artists as the opening act. The second segment featured 'Juara Vokal Bukan Sekadar Rupa' winner Norhasmidar Ahmad or Asmidar, performing traditional songs. The third segment showcased a medley of selected folk songs, and the final segment featured performances by guest artists, including 'Anugerah Pendokong Seni Negara 2006' recipient Datuk Andre Goh and the 36th Anugerah Bintang Popular BH (ABPBH) Popular Male Singer winner, Muhammad Khairul Baharuddin or Khai Bahar. A total of 26 traditional songs were performed, including Tari Tualang Tiga, Ketipang Payung, Puteri Melayu, Halimun Malam, Asam Paya, Sireh Pinang and a medley of selected folk ballads such as Inang Renek, Ayam Didik and Jong Inai
