. But forecasters say they have not yet pinned down the timing of Thursday’s storms — a factor that could play a key role in the intensity of the storms.

“This timing of the front coming through is significant for the development of severe weather,” the weather service’s Mount Holly office said in its public forecast discussion Wednesday morning. “If the front is fast to come through, e.g., before or just after noon, the potential is less for severe development from less heating. If the front is slow to come through, e.g., late afternoon into evening, the potential is greater for severe development from more heating.

Forecasters from AccuWeather and the Storm Prediction Center say there's a low risk of severe thunderstorms in parts of New Jersey on Thursday, April 6, 2023. But they are not expecting widespread intense storms similar to the ones that formed last weekend. As for the possibility of any tornadoes developing, the weather service says: “The chance for a tornado appears to be lower at this time but cannot necessarily be completely ruled out.
