A 16-year-old boy has been arrested following a fatal crash in Kuching, Malaysia, that claimed the lives of five people. Police are investigating the incident under charges of reckless driving.

A 16-year-old boy has been detained for driving without a license, resulting in a fatal crash that claimed five lives on Jalan Stutong Baru in Kuching at 12.50pm on Tuesday (Jan 14). Kuching District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee stated that initial investigations indicate the crash occurred when the suspect lost control of the vehicle, veered into the oncoming lane, and collided with two motorcycles and two cars.

Four victims, three men and a local woman, aged between 16 and 45, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another 16-year-old victim succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment. Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
