A 16-year-old called in two phony bomb threats to Hooters in East Brunswick this month, officials said.
The teen placed the first call at about 9:30 p.m on July 6, claiming a bomb was in a bathroom at the Route 18 restaurant, East Brunswick police said Monday. The second fake threat was also made by phone — at about 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday. The caller made the same claim about an explosive in a restroom.East Brunswick police charged the Old Bridge teen Thursday with two counts of false public alarm following an investigation. Police did not name the teen because of his age.
“Hoax bomb threats create public fear while putting first responders and the public in unnecessary danger,: Chief Frank LoSacco said in a statement. “False reports waste emergency response resources, which may lead to real tragedies. We hope this serves as a lesson to others considering doing such a reckless act that it will not be tolerated.”
