PETALING JAYA: The 16-year-old boyfriend of murdered teenager Yap Xin Yuan and his older brother have been released on police bail with investigators given further instructions on the case.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the bail included a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code which required them to appear in court at any determined time.“However, investigators have been given further instructions on the case. The investigation paper will be referred again to the prosecution office once the instructions have been fulfilled,” he said, adding that the duo’s remand order expired yesterday.
It is learnt that a third suspect, the brothers’ 51-year-old father, has also been released and is likely to turn prosecution witness.Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said the toxicology and post-mortem reports would determine whether the girl died due to a misunderstanding that led to an altercation or her death was connected to drug use.
Comm Hussein was referring to the possibility of Xin Yuan dying due to a drug overdose before her body was dumped into the river. It was reported that a decomposed body found in a river in Banting on Dec 28 was positively identified through a DNA test to be that of Xin Yuan, who was reported missing on Dec 19.
