A teen was bitten by a shark during vacation in Gulf Shores.

A teenager from Kentucky is recovering after suffering an apparent shark bite while vacationing in Gulf Shores.

Blake Berry, 17, said he was in waist-deep water last Tuesday when he felt something clamp on to his ankle. He swam back to shore and saw “tons of blood” covering his ankle. “It turned out to be a fourth of an inch away from hitting a major artery, which probably would’ve led to me bleeding out, possibly losing my foot or even dying,”Berry was bit by what was estimated to be an 8-foot-long bull shark. He was taken to the hospital where he required surgery and more than 50 stitches. He said doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
