The four hour session featured performances by Colombia’s Ela Minus and Buenos Aires-born hip hop artist Sofia Gabanna around a typically uncompromising set by Hawtin himself. Those visuals were courtesy of AR explorer Paola Olea, Colombian artist Juan David Figueroa, Argentina’s QUALIA.
The scene was so compelling that, of course, it quickly went from underground to overground and got commercialized. How do you read the culture today? was sitting behind me, watching me play for hours and hours. I always respected anyone who would just be there and go on the journey with me, especially back then when I was playing 5, 6, 7 hours. He was just there with no fanfare, enjoying the music and the ride, and other people connected us. But I could feel how deeply he was sucked into the music and that made an impression on me. And we kept crossing paths, and that slowly developed into conversation, then friendship, then collaboration.
