In mid-2019, President Donald Trump threatened to extend tariffs on industrial components and consumer products like iPhones, laptops, and video game consoles. Tech giants like Microsoft , Sony , and Nintendo joined forces to prevent the import taxes, which could have increased prices by 25 percent.
However, four years later, Trump has promised to impose even higher tariffs on everything Americans buy, including a proposed 60 percent import tax on products assembled in China and a 10-20 percent tax on products made outside the U.S
