Suddenly there was no seemingly glaring void at the top of the tackle class, which allowed me to cool on so aggressively projecting Johnson Jr. to be a huge hit at tackle. The end result? I weaned him back to 51st overall, behind four other tackles—the three previously mentioned players and Tennessee’s, who ironically may be an NFL guard playing left tackle as compared to Johnson Jr. being a player who played guard but was really a tackle.
Joe Marino tabbed Johnson Jr. as OT4 but still fit him as a top-40 player. My other three colleagues ranked Johnson Jr. as OT3. I like his profile but that level of confidence just isn’t a place I’m ready to go without seeing him play left tackle.Allow me to come clean on Harrell. All of us on The Draft Network scouting staff understand that a bigger sample size will be needed as a receiver to live up to this kind of ranking. But being 6-foot and 195 pounds and being as explosive as he is isn’t natural—and we are all betting on a major, major glow-up for Harrell this season in the Alabama offense.It feels like we’ve been waiting for the Harrison breakout for a while now.
Harrison was a 5-star recruit who has long carried expectations of being a dominant player in Columbus. We can all hope to see the light bulb come on for him to live up to that narrative, but if you stack Harrison’s resume up for his on-field performance versus the rest of the EDGE class, I have a significant number of players I currently like more—including players that fit different niches of the position than Harrison and players that fit the same.
I personally ranked Harrison as EDGE13 and the 88th overall player in the TDN100, whereas the consensus scores fit him as EDGE10 and the No. 58 overall prospect.
