#TBT: Long-Lost WWII dog tags reunite daughter with late father in Liberty Hill
At the Liberty Hill Veterans Memorial Park, Susan Stevens Trammell experienced a profoundly emotional moment when she opened an envelope shipped from Seoul, South Korea.
"I was holding out for a special moment, and this is that special moment. I'm going to cherish this for a long, long time." Keay shared his discovery during a 3 AM Zoom call with CBS Austin anchor John-Carlos Estrada from South Korea."I opened the little bag and out fell this dog tag. It was quite a surprise," he recalled. The tags had remained on a shelf until 2021 when Keay decided to find their rightful owner.Over the years, he has helped reunite numerous tokens of valor, often from missing pilots, with their families.
"It brings me so much closer to a dad that I never knew," she said. "It's the best feeling. It really is a great feeling to have this, to see it, to hold it, to wear it if I want to."Keay explained that fine pitting on metal surfaces often results from blood's acidity over time.
