The deadline to file federal income taxes is on April 18 this year, but a handful of states have separate deadlines for their state taxes. Here's when you need to file depending on where you live.
Most states also have their deadline to file state taxes in line with the federal income deadline, but some states give residents up to an extra month to file their state taxes. Anyone who lives in one state but works in another one will usually need to file a state tax return for both their resident state and the area where their employer is located, which applies to remote workers as well, according to eFile.Virginia residents have until May 1 to file their state taxes.
Some states, including Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming, do not require residents to file a state tax return at all, allowing the residents to focus on the federal tax deadline on April 18. Tennessee and New Hampshire, meanwhile, have no income taxes for earned income in their state.
