An independent investigation has been launched into claims Tasmanian Attorney-General Elise Archer engaged in bullying and inappropriate behaviour.

It follows newspaper reports at least two current or former staff members of Ms Archer have raised allegations of bullying and inappropriate behaviour with Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sarah Bolt.

Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff confirmed an investigation had been launched into the claims, after a matter was raised with him "through a third party", but said it was inappropriate to comment further. She said she had not been provided with the "factual particulars of the matters that have been raised" and welcomed the independent investigation.

Turnover in Ms Archer's office was raised in state parliament last year, with a document released under right to information laws showing eight staff members left in 2019-20, four in 2020-21 and six departed in 2021-22. She described the question as "disappointing" and said it was not unusual for staff to move around the state service, or take up employment with other ministers.

First elected in 2010, Ms Archer has been attorney-general since 2018, and also has ministerial responsibility for workplace safety.
