Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco on Tuesday denied claims of a possible agency amnesty for illegal aliens in the country.
Tansingco was reacting to statements made by a former deputy commissioner that a draft proposal had been submitted to the Department of Justice, subject to perusal, for an alleged P2 billion amnesty budget allotted for 500,000 illegal aliens residing in the Philippines.“No such proposal has been submitted by the BI,” he added.
Tangsinco also clarified that to implement such an amnesty, a new law would have to be passed by Congress.“We have received prior information that there are unscrupulous groups on social messaging apps already selling slots for this supposed amnesty, hence we reiterate that no such thing is on the table,” he clarified.
