America's longest war ends after 20 years as last U.S. troops depart Afghanistan, concluding final, frantic airlift.

Some of the rockets landed across town, striking residential apartment blocks, witnesses said. That neighborhood is about 3 kilometers from the airport. No injuries were reported.

The U.S. State Department released a statement Sunday signed by about 100 countries, as well as NATO and the European Union, saying they had received “assurances” from the Taliban that people with travel documents would still be able to leave. The Taliban honored a pledge not to attack Western forces during the evacuation, but IS remained a threat.
